About Youniversalis

Founded after years of growing discontent with the established networks on the world wide web. In a world where it seems that the big ones were always around, it is actually good to think back. During the 20th century, there already were social networks known as newsgroups. In 1998, a friend created one where more and more joined, till it lost its charm—ironically, because too many strangers joined.

In 2004, a social network was created in the Netherlands which grew to five million users by 2007. Only in 2006 did the big player we all know become public.

The Shift

In the beginning, friends shared something and you saw it, always. After years, it became more and more of an advertising outlet which decided for you what you liked to see. Now, during court cases in the US, it became public knowledge that it is designed to get you addicted to scrolling. The things you post there become their property; they spy everything about you and want you to share your contacts with them. It is built for their own needs, alone.

Enough about others. This was just for contrast, to clearly show the differences and to explain why this site was deemed necessary.

The Gap We Fill

This site was created to fill several gaps. Designed to fulfil these requirements optimally—not to collect data, but to give you the opportunity to share what you want with whom you want to share it.

Just as important is the location of your data. The European Union values privacy. The servers on which this site runs are in Germany, the domain is in Luxembourg; therefore, this does not fall under the US CLOUD Act or FISA. The site is designed as DSA and GDPR compliant. No need to excuse all kinds of ifs and buts about what is done with your data. It is simple: your data, shared, is shared with your connections, with whom you connected.

Privacy is in Our DNA

Anything you will ever share here or see will be from people you chose to connect to, and they agreed to. This also minimizes any kind of possible harassment and makes it go away quite easily. No connection, no possibility to interfere in your Youniverse.

Privacy has its price, though. It may not be very easy to grow your network if that is in your interest, since you need to know another person's username to actually find them. Of course, there can be interaction with one of your connections, which causes you to see another friend. Then connecting becomes easier.

This is the site for you if you want some security for your data, if you do not want to have Big Tech meddle in all you do. If you want to see all that your friends decide to share in order of the time it was shared, going back obviously.
